Why Emotion?
Our emotions hold the key to our sense of purpose, vitality, fulfilling relationships, effective work, and loving parenting. Most of us have not been modeled, taught, or shown what to do with our feelings beyond stuffing them down or seeing their expression hurt the things we care most about. Even more so, our emotions often do not feel safe to feel inside our relationships, our work, our friends, and most importantly inside our own bodies.
What we often miss about emotions is that they are relational. They long to be seen, listened to, and held without judgement. This is where emotion coaching can help. Having an emotion coach can create a safe place to express any emotion and learn how to experience your inner life in a new way. This process can help your body re-learn how to feel, in safe and constructive ways that benefit your sense of self and your relationships.

My name is Greg Mathews, I'm glad you are here! My heart lies in helping people discover the beautiful and complex landscape of their inner lives and learn to experience themselves in a new way. This space is born out a Masters in Counseling, training in the Enneagram, work as a counselor, facilitating workshops, and developing curriculum in the emotional and mental health space. Most of all though, this is born out of my own journey as a fellow human who is walking the healing path of learning to feel emotion. I know and have experienced the transforming power of a safe space to bring pain, joy, fear, and hope, finding a deep sense of self and meaning in the process. If you find yourself hurting or stuck, you're not alone and you are not a problem to be solved, you are an experience to have, first and foremost in yourself.

Though there may be overlap in the benefits of an emotion coach and having a licensed therapist, these professionals serve unique roles and have distinct purposes.
Psychotherapy with a therapist and other mental health professionals focus on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. Working with me as an emotion coach is designed to help you to connect with your emotional life, build internal emotional capacity, and find clarity in your life, work, and relationships. As an emotion coach, I do not diagnose mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addiction, or any other mental health condition.

I will gently guide you to become aware of and experience your emotions. The specific goals will be individualized to your experience, but the main goal is to guide you in your awareness and experience of your emotional life, leading to clarity, confidence, and a deeper connection to self.
We will work together to help your body learn to be safe to feel and metabolize emotion, both the challenging and the thrilling. There is a sense of centered grounding available when your body experientially knows it is safe to feel sad, angry, afraid, excited, joyful, etc.

This process is individual to each of us. We all have adopted unique ways to navigate our emotional lives and defend against overwhelming feelings. We will learn what you use to defend against feeling, which emotions feel safe in your body and which ones do not feel safe, and most importantly learn to experience and process your emotion rather than just talk about them or avoid feeling them. This process is an exercise program for your emotional life.
I encourage starting with weekly or bi-weekly meetings for 8-10 sessions. After this, we will work together to find a rhythm that supports your growth in the best way.

Each session is $125 for a 50-minute session together. We can meet in a private, comfortable and beautiful space inside of Ignite Yoga in Centerville, Ohio or we can meet via a secure video call.
I also offer a 10-session package for $1,125 that lets you save $125 (equivalent to a free session).
